Nutrition for diabetes

Diabetes is the fastest growing disease in the world. About 347 million people suffer from it. In Bulgaria, people with diabetes are more than 500 000.

There are two types of diabetes - Type 1 diabetes (insulin dependent) and type 2 diabetes (non-insulin dependent, which over time can become type 1 diabetes).

The underlying cause of diabetes are problems with the pancreas, which performs two important functions. The first is the release of digestive enzymes and sodium bicarbonate, which alkalizes intestinal contents. The second task of the pancreas is secretion of insulin from beta cells that are involved in glucose transport to each cell in the body.

When cells of the pancreas weaken it affects its two main functions. And overloading that organ and effectiveness of the decomposition and transport of nutrients depends on the food we eat. The entire gastrointestinal tract, starting from the mouth (except for the stomach), is alkaline in nature. Consuming more acidifying foods is the cause all body organs, especially the pancreas, to work in extreme mode. To neutralize these acids and maintain acid-base balance in the body, the pancreas begins to produce more digestive enzymes and bicarbonate. However, when it persists, hyperfunction of the pancreas becomes a hypofunction. Thus the gland wear off and begin to produce less insulin.

Formally, diabetes is considered an autoimmune problem in which lymphocytes attack the beta cells and destroy them. According to the latest research, the cause of diabetes lies mainly in increasing fat in the diet. As a result, the beta cells do not interact with the glucose that is unable to reach the cells of the organism. They react and send a signal that they are hungry, more insulin is released for transport and it produces a vicious circle in which the blood sugar is high and in the consequence is diabetes. Therefore fat and acidifying foods are a major cause of diabetes.

Longterm experience of the team of Health Center Vita Rama with diabetic patients with type 1 and 2 shows that the solution is in the process of detoxification of the body and regeneration of the endocrine system - mainly the pancreas and adrenal glands. Following this treatment process, from incurable diabetes can become curable. Contrary to orthodox medicine, which claims that intake of fruits must be reduced in diabetes, the longterm experience and practice of Health center Vita Rama show that the best results are achieved with the exclusion of heavy proteins such as meat, dairy products, eggs, fish, fat and complex carbohydrates as bread and pasta, refined and ready-to-cook foods and by including more fruits and vegetables in the diet.

We recommend the diet for regulating diabetes to begin without consuming much sweet fruit until blood sugar is regulated. About a week after the beginning  sweet fruit could be introduced. With the purification of blood plasma starts the recovery of the endocrine system and pancreas. Gradually the intake of pills or injections decreases, depending on the type of diabetes.

Suitable foods for the initial period of regulating diabetes are:

• Fruits - apples, blueberries, blackberries (it is good to eat 10 blueberries per day), cranberries, raspberries, strawberries, cantaloupe, watermelon, red grapefruit, mangoes, oranges, pears, kiwi, plums.

• Vegetables - tomatoes, carrots, broccoli, asparagus, spinach, lettuce, cucumbers, green beans, red onion, broccoli, cauliflower.

• Spices - basil, coriander, oregano, mint, cinnamon.

• Sprouts (6-7 daily large growths) - alfalfa, Chinese bean, arugula, comfrey, broccoli, turnips.

In the next stage of treatment the menu should include 70% fruits and vegetables, and the rest should be seeds and nuts, gluten-free grains like quinoa, amaranth, buckwheat, millet, rarely brown rice and corn, as well as small amounts of legumes such as chickpeas, beans, lentils.
